Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli have welcomed their first child, a baby girl, together.
The Emmy-winning actress announced the news Sunday, May 9.
“Happy 1st Mother’s Day to my beautiful wife, who four weeks ago today after laboring for almost 3 days gave birth to our first child — our gorgeous daughter, George.” Wiley wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of herself and Morelli holding their newborn’s hands.
“Welcome to the world, babygirl,” The Handmaid’s Tale star added. “We love you and we thank you for giving us the best 1st Mother’s Day two ladies could ask for.”
The couple hadn’t announced Morelli’s pregnancy prior to George’s arrival, but as they revealed in their respective posts, she was born April 11.
“Four weeks ago today, our daughter came into the world and changed everything,” Morelli captioned the same photo. “We are so happy, so grateful, and so tired. George Elizabeth, 4.11.21.”
The two wed in March 2017 after first meeting on the set of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, where Morelli was a writer and Wiley played Poussey Washington.
Wiley currently stars on Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, which earned her the best guest actress in a drama series Emmy in 2018, as well as nominations for best supporting actress in 2017 and 2020. Her other recent television credits include FX’s You’re the Worst and NBC’s Will & Grace. Her feature credits include Kathryn Bigelow’s Detroit.
Morelli recently served as an executive producer and writer for Netflix’s reboot of Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, which premiered on the streamer in June 2019.
